According to market participants, 1158 KMT of barley was exported from Ukraine in August, or slightly less than a year ago (1192 KMT was shipped abroad in August 2016).
Barley exports from the country totaled 1973 KMT in the first two months of the 2017-2018 season, or 10.5% less than a year ago (2204 KMT was exported in July-August 2016-2017), but more than in the previous periods.
Traditionally, the key end market for Ukrainian barley is Saudi Arabia, which absorbed over 680 KMT (35% of total exports) at the time. Ukrainian barley was actively purchased by China. Ukraine supplies 560 KMT of barley to the Chinese market during the month under review that is already 87% more than for the whole last season (300 KMT).
European Union countries also actively imported barley from Ukraine in the first months of the season. Ukrainian exporters supplied more than 220 KMT of barley to the EU during the reporting period. This is up 18% from the same time last season. (UkrAgroConsult/Business World Magazine)
