Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevicius said October 12 that Ukraine’s allies should ask President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to target more data centres in Russia, suggesting such strikes could help protect European elections from foreign interference.
“I think we should ask Mr Zelenskyi to strike more data centres in Russia, and that might help,” Sinkevicius said at the Warsaw Security Forum, responding to a question about what Lithuania, Poland and other allies should do to safeguard their elections.
During a panel discussion on European security challenges amid global changes, Sinkevicius spoke alongside Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.
“Nobody will offer us Europeans a seat at the decision-making table simply out of courtesy. For Europe to have a seat, it must find more strength, energy and unity within itself,” Sinkevicius said.
He added that political commitments must be translated into action more quickly and defence investments into new military capabilities.
Strategies and plans were necessary, he said, but “they are not what deters Russia”.
Sinkevicius also called for greater cooperation among European defence industries, saying production capacity remained insufficient to meet actual needs. He urged allies to work more closely together through intelligence sharing, joint procurement, joint production and military exercises, while drawing on Ukraine’s battlefield experience and expertise.
