Cooler-than-usual weather with precipitation was observed from November 28 through December 4.
The average weekly air temperature in Moldova was -1.3 to +0.1 degrees C, or 1-2.5 C below normal. Air temperatures bottomed out at –9 C. Minimum soil temperature at the tillering node (3-cm depth) in winter crops was –1 to +1 C, or far above its critical values (-15 C).
Precipitation in the form of rain, snow and sleet was reported throughout the week. 60% of the country’s territory received at most 1-7 mm of precipitation (10-70% of normal), while 100-190% of normal was seen in the rest of Moldova.
Snow cover was seen mostly in northern areas. Its height averaged 1-10 cm towards the weekend. Winter crops and perennial plantations were dormant during the week. (UkrAgroConsult/Business World Magazine)
