In August Russia exported 349.8 KMT of barley, down by 42.5% YoY (606.7 KMT). During two months of the season shipments decreased by 33% – to 801.9 KMT against 1197.9 KMT in July-August 2015/2016 MY. In addition, according to market operators, barley exports from Russia continued to decline in September.
During the reporting period shipments to the market of the main consumer – Saudi Arabia – decreased by 40.5% to 453.7 KMT against 763.7 KMT over the same period last season. At the same time, slight increase in supply was observed on the markets of Lebanon, Egypt, Turkey, Israel and Iran.
This year barley crop in Russia gave hopes for higher export potential. The question is when exports will gain pace. Meantime, the majority of market participants are focused on wheat. (UkrAgroConsult/Business World Magazine)
