Kyrgyzstan is again considering the issue of electricity supply from Tajikistan in summer, the department of information support of the government reported.
The deputy prime minister Oleg Pankratov held a meeting on preparations for the autumn-winter of 2016/2017 and discussed the accumulation of water in the Toktogul reservoir. He instructed the National Energy holding of the country together with National Electric Network and Electric stations to work out the question of the possibility to import electricity from Tajikistan in summer.
“By the beginning of autumn-winter of 2016/2017, the possibility of the interchange of electricity is being considered. This will reduce the overflow from the Toktogul reservoir, Tajikistan will reduce idle discharges from the Vakhsh cascade HPPs and increase supply of electric power”, a statement said.
It should be noted that due to the low water period and the low level of water in the Toktogul reservoir, it is not the first year when Kyrgyzstan has to buy electricity from Kazakhstan or to interchange conditions to take from Tajikistan. (24.kg/Business World Magazine)
