The Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine draws the attention of private sector representatives to the fact that the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has announced the acceptance of expressions of interest (Request for Expressions of Interest, REOI) for participation in the program for the delivery of internationally transferred emission reduction results (ITMOs).
The program is aimed at attracting private investment in projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Companies from countries that have bilateral agreements with Switzerland on cooperation under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement can participate. Ukraine is included in this list. The implementation of selected projects is planned for 2026-2030.
The current phase of expressions of interest is exploratory in nature and is designed to assess the potential of the private sector to develop quality projects for the generation of ITMOs. In the future, a competitive selection process and the conclusion of agreements with selected companies are planned. Payment for transferred ITMOs will be made based on the results confirmed by independent verification.
The program is implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment and is part of the international initiative to develop carbon markets. Detailed information about the program, terms of participation and registration for the information session are available at the link.
For Ukrainian businesses, this initiative opens up a practical mechanism for attracting financing for decarbonization projects – in particular, in the areas of renewable energy, increasing energy efficiency, and reducing methane emissions, including in the agricultural sector. (Economy Ministry)
