From January 1, Russia plans to change the system of calculating the eco-tax on car tires, sources of Izvestia in the government reported. According to them, the rate will now depend on the carcinogenicity of the materials used for production. In particular, when using environmentally hazardous compounds, one of the coefficients for calculating the eco-tax will increase from 0 to 17. The tax will apply to tires and wheels for cars, motorcycles, mopeds, quads, buses, trolleybuses, and trucks.
In the Ministry of Industry and Trade, they confirmed that the changes have already been agreed upon by the Cabinet of Ministers, noting that the increased rates will primarily affect imported products. According to the ministry, about 40% of foreign tires do not meet the GOST requirements for carcinogen content, while among Russian manufacturers, this figure is 11%. “The introduction of an increased eco-tax on carcinogen-dangerous tires will reduce the volume of such products on the market – such a measure will become relevant as part of the state’s efforts to increase the life expectancy of the population,” the ministry said (The Moscow Times).
