International partners are allocating over UAH 3 billion to support households in frontline regions that rely on solid fuel for heating during the upcoming heating season. The funds are expected to be used for purchasing solid fuel, with each household receiving UAH 19,400 for this purpose.
The support from foreign partners was discussed during a working meeting involving Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Liudmyla Shemelynets, First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity, and representatives from donor countries including the USA, EU, Germany, the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland.
“Thanks to the financial support from our partners, hundreds of thousands of vulnerable citizens in frontline areas will be able to keep their homes warm this winter. Donors have pledged nearly UAH 3.5 billion, which will be distributed to citizens based on specific vulnerability criteria, providing UAH 19,400 per household for the entire 2025-2026 heating season,” said Iryna Vereshchuk.
In turn, First Deputy Minister Liudmyla Shemelynets noted that for the past two years, the Ministry of Social Policy, with support from the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), had provided additional assistance to families receiving benefits and subsidies who heated their homes with firewood or coal.
“Over two consecutive years, thanks to our partners’ financial support, around 500,000 households have received additional funds for solid fuel. The total funding for 2024-2025 amounted to UAH 3.24 billion. This has been significant support for families in need and facing difficult circumstances. However, last year, due to certain technical issues, some households did not receive payments from UNHCR. To ensure timely provision of fuel, we must launch additional support programmes funded by donors as soon as possible.
