Net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) amounted to $3.624 billion as of August 1, up by 49.9% since early 2016, the NBB said in a statistical report.
Belarus’ net foreign assets grew due to an increase in gross foreign assets by 21.4% in January-July to $5.052 billion and an 18.1% decrease in liabilities to $1.429 billion as of August 1.
Net foreign assets placed in hard currency amounted to $3.213 billion as of August 1 (to compare with $2.424 billion as of January 1), while soft currency assets were equivalent to $410.2 million (minus $6.3 million as of January 1).
In 2015 net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and National Bank of Belarus decreased by 14.8% YoY to $2.418 billion as of January 1, from $2.839 billion as of January 1, 2015. (Prime-TASS/Business World Magazine)
