The First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkiye, on the sidelines of an energy forum in Baku. The ministers discussed the current situation in Ukraine’s energy system and the country’s needs in preparation for the next heating season.
Particular attention was paid to implementing the agreements reached between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan on energy partnership and strengthening security in the Black Sea region.
“We have significant potential to deepen cooperation both at the intergovernmental level and between our companies. In particular, we are interested in creating a new gas supply route using Ukraine’s gas transmission system and underground gas storage facilities. This project could provide up to 5 billion cubic metres of gas annually not only for Ukraine but also for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. We are already working on its commercial and technical model,” Denys Shmyhal said.
The parties also discussed prospects for the joint development of gas fields in the Black Sea.
Denys Shmyhal thanked Turkiye for its openness to cooperation and its readiness to turn existing potential into practical solutions that strengthen energy security and economic partnership across the Black Sea region. (Government portal)
