Ukrzaliznytsia in partnership with Visa is adding six new children’s compartment carriages to its fleet. All of them will undergo major renovation, will be supplemented with educational and interactive components and adapted for comfortable and safe travel with children.
The first three carriages have already undergone complete re-equipment and set off on their first flight from the Kyiv railway station. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine Oleksiy Balesta, Chairman of the Board of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” Oleksandr Pertsovsky, and representatives of Visa.
“Children must remain the focus of our attention, especially in such difficult times. This project is a great example of how during wartime you can give children comfortable and safe travel. At the same time, the state also continues to update its rolling stock. This year, the railway will receive 60 new passenger cars manufactured at Ukrainian facilities, which means both better conditions for passengers and support for the national industry,” said Oleksiy Balesta.
The passengers of the special first trip of new cars under the retro steam train were children cared for by the charity organization Save Ukraine.
All children’s cars are decorated in a single concept “Fairytale Ukrainian Forest”, which creates an atmosphere of a magical journey for children through thematic interiors, visual elements and special bedding.
The first cars will run as part of two trains: No. 011/012 Lviv – Odesa and No. 001/002 Kharkiv – Ivano-Frankivsk. They can be found on sale from Lviv – from April 24, from Odessa – from April 25, from Kharkiv – from May 2, from Ivano-Frankivsk – from May 3. Three more cars will join the fleets of other passenger trains in the near future.
Tickets for children’s cars are available exclusively through the Ukrzaliznytsia mobile application. Their cost corresponds to the cost of compartment tickets of the same class within the same train. In the application, such cars have a special marking “Children’s”. Children under the age of 5 travel on Ukrzaliznytsia trains for free and do not require a separate ticket. (Development Ministry)
