Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk met with Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine Natalka Cmoc. The parties focused on expanding cooperation in the energy sector.
The meeting was a continuation of the dialogue initiated between the leaders of the two countries – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney – during the latter’s visit to Kyiv in May.
This meeting was a follow-up of the dialogue initiated between the leaders of the two countries, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney, during the Canadian Prime Minister’s visit to Ukraine in August.
“Our countries already have a substantial portfolio of joint energy projects, as well as good cooperation on issues related to the protection of our critical infrastructure,” said Svitlana Grynchuk.
The agenda for both countries includes nuclear fuel production, the introduction of advanced technologies such as small modular reactors, the development of hydropower, cooperation in the field of low-carbon technologies and the oil and gas sector, the diversification of gas supply routes, and the launch of joint educational programs to train a new generation of specialists.
They also discussed strengthening contacts between Canadian and Ukrainian energy companies for joint project implementation. As the Ambassador noted, businesses in Canada were already considering niches for cooperation with Ukraine and in Ukraine. The parties agreed to intensify work in this area.
The minister thanked Canada for its assistance to the Ukrainian energy sector, in particular through the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which already exceeded EUR 69 million, as well as other international mechanisms.
“We greatly appreciate this assistance and are committed to further partnership that will deliver results,” concluded Svitlana Grynchuk. (Government portal)
