The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, in collaboration with the World Bank, continues to steadfastly support universities operating in frontline conditions or relocated due to russian aggression. As part of the relevant project component, funding exceeding UAH 120 million has been approved. These funds are aimed at procuring equipment to ensure resilient educational and administrative activities for higher education institutions.
“We are deliberately bolstering those universities facing the greatest challenges. This is both a moral duty of the state and a strategic decision. Universities remaining in frontline regions or forced to relocate must receive additional support. They are often the ones submitting the clearest requests, as they know exactly what they need to survive and develop,” said Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Mykhailo Vynnytskyi.
To date, 34 higher education institutions from Donetsk, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv and Kherson regions have identified their needs and secured funding opportunities.
Equipment is being procured following World Bank procedures and will be used to support the educational process, conduct practical classes and meet the basic needs of university communities.
The priority is to upgrade IT equipment to support frontline universities and ensure uninterrupted education. Some batches of such equipment have already been delivered to 26 higher education institutions, including: 153 interactive panels, 121 charging stations, 17 Starlink satellite communication terminals and 34 sound systems.
Until the end of summer, the following are expected to be delivered: 304 laptops and 78 monitors.
The largest funding allocations, including research equipment, have been approved for universities such as: National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”, State Biotechnology University (Kharkiv), National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic”, Zaporizhzhia National University and Sumy National Agrarian University.
Support for the development and modernisation of universities is being carried out at the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science within the framework of the joint World Bank Ukraine Improving Higher Education for Results Project.
Additionally, beyond the investment support through the World Bank project, at the initiative of the President of Ukraine, the Government has allocated a further UAH 300 million to enhance the financial resilience of universities in frontline regions, namely Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
