The US Department of State has resumed its military aid programmes for the Baltic States after a review.
The new US administration had frozen all foreign aid while conducting an “assessment”.
“The US Department of State has reinstated the military fund program, through which Lithuania buys military equipment and gear, as well as the international student program, which provides training for about 10 Lithuanian officers in the US every year,” Audra Plepyte, the Lithuanian ambassador to the US, said.
The programmes are worth more than 10 million euros annually and are not directly related to Pentagon-provided aid or the deployment of US troops.
Currently, about one thousand US troops are stationed in Lithuania on a rotational basis. (LRT)
