The Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Ukraine Martin Harris.
The parties discussed areas of cooperation to help the Ukrainian energy sector in the face of constant russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
German Galushchenko briefed the Ambassador on the emergency repair and restoration of power facilities, and informed him of the current needs for equipment, in particular transformers and power facility protection equipment.
“russia has been attacking our energy sector continuously for the past year and continues to do so. We are constantly searching for new solutions and restoring connections, continuing to repair facilities without stopping, and trying to restore damaged generation capacities,” the minister said.
The Ministry of Energy thanked the UK for the assistance it has been providing to the Ukrainian energy sector since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. In particular, this includes about EUR 100 million in contributions to Ukraine Energy Support Fund, as well as humanitarian aid – 84 cargoes weighing over 1,252 tons.
The Ambassador praised the work of Ukrainian power engineers in restoring energy facilities after the hostile attacks and assured that energy remains one of the priorities of the British-Ukrainian partnership.
Special attention was paid to the issue of threats posed by russian attacks on substations critical to the operation of Ukrainian NPPs. The need to increase international attention to the relevant threats, in particular at the IAEA level, as well as the importance of continuing the activities of the agency’s monitoring missions at the relevant substations was stressed.
