Every day, Russia attacks Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, including medical infrastructure, deliberately targeting peaceful cities and terrorising citizens. The enemy is systematically destroying hospitals, polyclinics, outpatient clinics and maternity wards, putting additional strain on the medical system.
Nevertheless, restoring the medical infrastructure is a priority for the state. Reconstruction work has been underway for more than two and a half years to ensure that Ukrainians have unhindered access to the quality medical care they need. Thus, 887 medical facilities have been fully or partially restored in different regions of Ukraine. Of these, 537 facilities have been fully restored and another 350 have been partially restored. These are healthcare facilities in the de-occupied territories, as well as those that have suffered minor damage: broken windows, roofing, facade damage, etc. Most of the facilities have been restored in Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions.
During the full-scale war, the enemy damaged 1,673 medical facilities and destroyed another 223. Hospitals in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions suffered the greatest damage. It is currently impossible to obtain comprehensive information on the extent of damage to hospitals in the temporarily occupied territories. Since the beginning of the war, russia has also damaged 226 ambulances, destroyed 263 and seized 125. (Government portal)
