On June 13, on the sidelines of the 23rd meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group in the Ramstein format, Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Sergiy Boyev, Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov and Minister of Defence of Denmark Troels Lund Poulsen signed a memorandum outlining a mechanism for financing the purchase of Ukraine-made weapons for the needs of the Ukrainian Security and Defence Forces.
“Denmark has pledged to support Ukraine’s defence efforts over the next 10 years. This requires, among other things, greater production of weapons and ammunition. Therefore, today we are taking the lead and responding to a direct request from Ukraine to ensure that investments are made in Ukraine’s defence industry in the near future. Thanks to Danish-Ukrainian defence cooperation, we will provide faster and more effective military support on the front line where it matters most,” said Troels Lund Poulsen.
This mechanism provides for the possibility of financing both under contracts already concluded by the Defence Procurement Agency of the Ministry of Defence and under new state contracts with Ukrainian producers. For the financing, the parties will agree on the list of weapons and the amount of financing based on proposals submitted by the Ukrainian side, which will be determined based on the needs of the Security and Defence Forces of Ukraine and the capabilities of Ukrainian weapons manufacturers.
“The importance of the document signed today is that we have established a clear mechanism for implementing projects to finance the procurement of weapons manufactured by Ukrainian arms manufacturers. Now we are moving on to the direct implementation of the financing projects. We are deeply grateful to Denmark for its willingness to support our arms manufacturers and for its leadership in creating the first practical mechanism to raise funds for our defence industry,” said Sergiy Boyev.
“This is a great step, as Denmark has become the first NATO country to invest in arms production in Ukraine. This is a confirmation that the Ukrainian defence industry is ready for international cooperation and is capable of meeting the highest standards,” Rustem Umerov said. (Government portal)
