A delegation of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), led by BNM Governor Anca Dragu, has had high-level meetings with the European Banking Authority (EBA). The BNM governor noted that Moldova’s financial sector had been significantly consolidated, especially due to the European integration process.
Anca Dragu appreciated the cooperation between BNM and EBA. She voiced confidence that the relation would advance, taking into account EBA’s major role in the field of regulation and supervision of EU’s financial system, as well as EBA’s contribution to the maintaining of EU’s financial stability.
“We have at BNM the same goals as regards the improvement of the banking and the non-banking system of Moldova,” the BNM governor stressed.
In this respect, Anca Dragu said that the National Bank was interested in the participation in projects meant for the countries candidates for accession to EU, so that the institution strengthened its capacities of competent authority of the financial sector.
At the same time, Anca Dragu also said that the development of the cooperation between BNM and the EU’s bank supervision authorities was possible after the confidentiality regime in the bank supervision sector from Moldova had been positively evaluated by EBA. The governor noted that BNM was interested in getting from EU the confirmation of the results of the reforms it had promoted in the banking sector. To this end, BNM is to initiate the exercise of evaluation as to the equivalence of the national banking legislation with the EU’s legislation, according to the EBA methodology.
EBA President Jose Manuel Campa expressed openness on behalf of the European Banking Authority for a closer cooperation with BNM, in order to help Moldova’s central bank advance on the European integration way. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
