Citizens from the 27 countries of the European Union, as well as from other states will be able to work in the Republic of Moldova without a work permit. This will boost the economic development potential and the investment attractiveness of our country, giving large companies access to qualified resources from other states.
The Cabinet voted, following the initiative of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization, the amendment to the Law on foreigners’ regime, by eliminating work permits for citizens coming from other states.
“We are making amendments to the law on the regime of foreigners in the Republic of Moldova and facilitating the access of our companies to growth, skills and innovation, which implies the need for people. Both large and small companies could grow faster if they could hire more labor. This structural limitation prevented us from achieving accelerated economic growth”, said Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba.
According to the amendments, citizens of the United States of America, Great Britain, Norway, Switzerland, Japan, Ukraine, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and the Balkan states will also be able to work without a work permit. Also, foreign students will have the right to work more hours, only on the basis of the temporary study permit.
The liberalization of access to work for EU citizens is one of the measures that were to be implemented in the context of the Republic of Moldova obtaining the status of a candidate country for joining the European Union. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
