The number of refugees arriving in Lithuania from Ukraine is going down, Evelina Gudzinskaite, the head of Lithuania’s Migration Department, says, adding that the drop has been recorded in recent weeks.
“At the moment, the inflow has gone down. Last month, we had over a hundred incoming war refugees from Ukraine every day. And now, last week, we registered fewer than 80,” she said.
Lithuania is bracing itself for an increase in the number of refugees from Ukraine, as the weather gets colder and the Russian military continues to damage energy infrastructure in Ukraine.
The majority of Ukrainians who have come to Lithuania since the beginning of the war are still in the country, Gudzinskaite says, adding that the number of Ukrainians who leave is small.
Official statistics show that some 70,000 Ukrainians have arrived in Lithuanian since the outbreak of the war. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
