Lithuania expects trade with Taiwan to grow after it opened a Trade Representative Office in Taipei on November 7, Economy and Innovation Minister Ausrine Armonaite said.
“Clearly, I would like to see higher trade volumes, but it’s only been a year since Lithuania deepened relations with Taiwan, so we expect that once the momentum picks up, trade volumes will be higher,” Armonaite said.
“We hope for more of those results because both Lithuanian businesses and people want to see results,” she added.
Taiwan has so far bought lasers worth 6 million euros from Lithuania, according to the minister. She hopes that cooperation in this sector will also strengthen.
“I would like to see this process take off. Lithuania specialises in the production of certain short-frequency lasers. Our lasers are exported to the whole world – to Asia and to America. So, I would like to see us gain momentum in this area as well,” Armonaite said.
However, the outcome of trade between Lithuania and Taiwan will also depend on businesses, the minister stressed. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
