A series of European Union-funded labour market studies have identified low qualification of job seekers as one of the main barriers for both employers and those looking for work in Georgia, the EU Delegation to Georgia has said.
The research also pointed to insufficient work experience, improper assessment of job seekers’ knowledge and skills, and exaggerated expectations regarding remuneration among other barriers.
The studies identified domestic sectors with growth potential and demanded professions, showed a shortage of technical and sectoral qualifications in the local labour market, and particularly trendy aspects of short-term programmes promoting self-employment.
“Job seekers are primarily interested in those fields characterised by the abundance of business entities and, accordingly, high employment opportunities”, the research reads. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
