Construction of a new road that will connect Mestia, a highland town of the Georgian region of Svaneti, to Lentekhi, a central town of Lentekhi district in Racha-Lechkhumi, and the Kvemo Svaneti region will be completed in 2023, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has announced while meeting with locals in Svaneti.
He said that 100 million GEL would be spent on the project.
In addition, construction of a road heading to the UNESCO-listed Georgian village Ushguli in Svaneti will be completed in 2022.
Garibashvili also announced that the revitalization of the Tetnuldi ski resort would start this year where water and sewerage systems would also be installed. In total 5 million GEL will be spent on the project.
Garibashvili said that the dismantling of the Hatsvali ropeway, which was located eight kilometers from Mestia, had started and it was planned to replace it completely with a new one.
In total 33 million GEL is planned to be spent on the renovation of the Laghami district in upper Svaneti, while about 6 million GEL has been allocated for the creation of a new central park in Mestia.
Garibashvili said that in addition a modern sports complex would be built in the town. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
