Compared to February 2020, total retail trade turnover reduced by 8.5% in February 2021. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 1.7%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) decreased by 21.5%, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – increased by 5.2%.
The most notable turnover growth was registered in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 20.5%) and retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialized stores (+20%), according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
A notable turnover drop was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (-63.9%), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (-37%) and retail sale in non-specialised stores selling mainly non-food products (-35.7%).
Total retail trade turnover at current prices fell by 9% (not taking into account the calendar influence).
Compared to January, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in February rose by 4.4%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 4%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 7.2%, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – reduced by 0.1%.
The most notable turnover growth was in non-specialized stores selling mainly non-food products (+16.5%), retail sale of cosmetics and toiletries (+16.3%) and retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialized stores (+11%). The most significant turnover drop was recorded in retail trade in pharmaceutical and medical goods (-4.2%).
