Compared to July 2019, total retail trade turnover rose by 3.8% in July 2020. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 1.7%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 4.4% and turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – by 6.8%.
The most notable turnover growth was registered in retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialized stores (+27.1%), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (+12.3%) and retail trade in pharmaceutical and medical goods (+10.1%). Turnover decline was registered in retail sale in stalls or markets (+9.7%) and retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (+3.2%), according to calendar-adjusted data from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
Total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 3.7% (not taking into account the calendar influence).
Compared to June, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in July fell by 0.9%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products declined by 2.2%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) did not change, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel fell by 0.5%.
The largest turnover growth was registered in retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialized stores (+11.5%), retail sale in stalls or markets (+9.1%) and retail sale of cosmetics and toiletries (+4.9%). The largest turnover drop was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (-9.3%) and retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (-5%).
Compared to June, in July the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) increased by 5%. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
