The speed limit on the planned Tallinn-Vaike bypass will be 50 km/h in the stretch that will pass through the residential district of Rae, southeast of Tallinn, city authorities say.
“We have reached an agreement between the various parties, whereby the planned Tallinn-Vaike ring road will be 70 km/h, and 50 km/h in the residential district,” Tallinn Deputy Mayor Priit Poldmae (Center) said on July 1.
The new road will connect Rae municipality to that off Tallinn, reduce traffic congestion in the southeastern side of the city, including on Tartu mnt and at the Ulemiste intersection and in particularly in the event of an accident on the current routes, and provide other alternatives for residents of Rae to reach the capital, Tallinn city government says.
No dual-level intersections are planned either, with junctions in the residential area remaining on ground level and using roundabouts.
More research is yet to be done, however, Poldmae said, with the final project plan due next spring.
