Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Kryklii has stated that the ministry intends to increase the share of low cost airlines in the Ukrainian aviation market to 45% in 2020 and to 63% in consecutive years.
“We will make every effort so that air travel for Ukrainians to become as common as travel by bus or train,” Kryklii noted, the ministry’s press service reported.
According to him, the optimization of taxation for Ukrainian carriers will reduce the cost of air tickets for domestic flights.
In addition, it is planned to reconstruct and build new airports in Dnipro, Mukachevo and Izmail, using budgetary funds. Works are underway to attract private investors to the development of regional airports. In particular, airports concessions are planned in Kherson, Chernivtsi and Zaporizhzhia.
Kryklii added that the number of Ukrainians using air services was expected to grow 3-fold in five years, while total passenger traffic was expected reach 32 million passengers.
Passenger traffic flow through Ukrainian airports in January-November grew by 18.7% YoY and totaled over 22.5 million passengers. In particular, the number of passengers served on international flights increased by 20% and made up 2.4 million people. (Ukrinform/Business World Magazine)
