Energy companies in Latvia produced 357,655 megawatt-hours of power in July, the lowest level of national power output since July 2018. This allowed to cover 64% of the Latvian electricity consumption, according to AS Augstsprieguma tikls (AST).
The independent transmission system operator AST stated in its review of the power market on August 22 that compared to the results of June, the total output of electric energy in July decreased by 12.1%.
The changes in the national electric power balance in July promoted higher imports from third countries. Namely, the amount of power imported from Russia and Belarus jumped by 60% in July as compared to June. Meanwhile, imports from European Union member states dropped by 2%, according to AST.
With both the consumption and production of electric power decreasing, the average price of power in Latvia jumped by 9.6%. Compared to July 2018, however, the price has dropped by 10%. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
