In January-May the port of Ventspils handled 8.380 million tons of cargo, down by 22% YoY, the port authority reported.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 17%, to 4.814 million tons, dry bulk cargo – by 38%, to 2.427 million tons, while general cargo grew by 11%, to 1.139 million tons.
The port’s container throughput totaled 1,962 TEUs (no containers were handled in the same period of the previous year). Turnover of passengers grew by 9%, to 79,108. The number of calls was flat YoY at 646 units.
Ventspils port is located near the Venta River. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and ro-ro trailers.
