In the current season Ukraine harvested more than 1 million tons of peas, and its export would reach the level of 500-600 thousand tons, which would become a record, the Ukrainian electronic grain exchange GrainTrade reported.
During 5 months of the season-2017-2018 the exports of Ukrainian peas increased by 77% YoY, to 475.1 thousand tons, and already exceeded the record figures of 2016-2017 MY at 467.5 thousand tons.
It is noted that after India increased the import duties on peas, it caused a significant drop of purchasing prices for Ukrainian peas to $185-190/ton in the ports, against $215-225/ton in the beginning of the season. Also the export rates significantly decreased.
In particular, in November 2017 the exports of Ukrainian peas seasonally started decreasing, but still significantly exceeded the figures of many previous years, and totaled 22.6 thousand tons (up by 40% YoY).
According to the report, India still remained the main country-importer of Ukrainian peas, as its share in the total export structure of the crop was 41%. In 5 months Ukraine increased its sales of peas to India by 16% compared with the whole last season. The supply of peas to Turkey increased by 64% YoY, to 101 thousand tons. The EU countries, especially the Netherlands, increased the imports of Ukrainian peas. In 5 months Ukraine increased its sales of peas to the EU by 69% YoY. (APK-Inform/Business World Magazine)
