The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan conducted the first intervention this year to sell dollars.
The bank sold $5.4 million with settlements on the date of the transaction. Growth in dollar exchange rate forced the National Bank to enter the currency market. Since the beginning of the year, the currency has risen in price by 50 tyiyns.
The intervention had no significant effect on the rate. The capital’s exchange offices and commercial banks buy dollar at 69.2-69.3 soms, and sell at 69.45-69.6. Nominal rate is 69,3735 soms (growth – 0.21%).
In 2017 the National Bank conducted 21 interventions. During the year it bought dollars five times, buying $34,460 million. The National Bank sold the currency more actively: $107,150 million were sold on the market during 16 interventions. Net sales of dollars amounted to $72,690 million. (24.kg/Business World Magazine)
