In January-August the Freeport of Riga handled 22,716,500 tons of cargo, down by 4.8% YoY.
According to the port authority, coal transshipment climbed by 5.2%, to 8,373,800 tons, oil products dropped by 34.4%, to 3,882,300 tons, wood pellets increased by 15%, to 444,900 tons, and ore by 35.7%, to 365,200 tons.
The port’s container throughput grew by 13.5%, to 281,901 TEUs.
Passenger turnover increased by 49.5%, to 595,510 including 80,700 cruise passengers (+33.6%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 m, and maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 m. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2016, the port’s throughput totaled 37,070,300 tons of cargo.
