Belarus needs to intensify its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said.
“We need to remove as many barriers as we can in advancing our products to all the markets. We need to intensify (and we have been working hard) on our country’s accession to the World Trade Organization. This is important for the economic image of our country. Belarus will be able to perform on the same unified rules that exist within the WTO which unites many countries,” said the minister.
Vladimir Makei also noted the importance of making the best use of the favorable situation on the foreign markets. This year Belarus’ export has already gone up by almost $2 billion, or by 23%.
“This does not mean, however, that we can be satisfied with it. This happens because prices on different products are rising worldwide. Today’s major task is to increase the volume of exports,” the minister said.
He stressed that Belarus needed to diversify the foreign economic activity in order to implement the corresponding task.
“Keeping the positions on traditional markets, and these are the markets of the Eurasian Economic Union, Russia, and our other traditional partners, we need to do our best to develop the markets of Europe and the distant-arc countries,” Vladimir Makei said. (BelTA/Business World Magazine)
