As of July 3, Tajikistan harvested 432.7 thousand tons of grain crops throughout the areas of 303.9 thousand ha, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan declared.
According to the announcement, in January-May Tajikistan imported 360 thousand tons of wheat (at the average price of $224 per ton), down by 23.8 thousand tons YoY. The sum of imported wheat totaled $75.8 million. Kazakhstan was the main supplier of the wheat.
In the reporting period the imports of flour totaled 23.4 thousand tons, down almost 2-fold YoY (42.6 thousand tons). Kazakhstan became the major supplier of flour as well.
In order to increase the domestic production, the Tajik authorities provided grants for wheat supplies. In particular, the VAT for wheat imports totals 10% only. The country built several flour mills, which are gradually increasing the domestic production.
In 2016 Tajikistan imported over 1.34 million tons of wheat and 88.8 thousand tons of flour. (APK-Inform/Business World Magazine)
