On January 24, the government delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov held a meeting with senior Advisor to the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on economic issues Humayun Kayumi, special representative of the President for cooperation with the countries of Central Asia and Russia Mahamad Shokir Korgar.
January 23-24, also saw separate bilateral talks between members of the Uzbek delegation representing industry associations and businesses with Afghan partners, the press service of Uzbekistan’s MFA said.
Bilateral economic and trade Road map was signed during the visit. It allows bringing the indicators of trade turnover to $1.5 billion in the shortest possible terms. The parties also signed the Protocol of intentions on further development of cooperation in the field of transport infrastructure involving the Uzbek side in the joint rail and road projects; Protocol of intent to establish a Joint Commission on security issues; Ministerial Memorandum of Understanding; Agreement between the ministries of internal affairs on cooperation in combating illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors.
Representatives of business structures of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan signed mutually beneficial contracts for the supply of medicines and medical devices, ambulance cars, wheat, electrical appliances totaling over $49.3 million. (UzReport/Business World Magazine)
