The implementation of numerous measures on agriculture development for the period 2016-2020, aimed at ensuring increased yields and productivity of agricultural products, the expansion of cultivated lands for growing fruit and vegetables, resulted in increased volumes of products (services) in agriculture, forestry and fishing at 6.6% YoY.
Meanwhile, growth in crop sector, animal production and hunting also made up 6.6%, in forestry – 1.8% and in fisheries – 21.6%. The rise in volumes of products (services) in the above spheres is due mainly to the significant increase in crop and animal production, hunting and services in these areas, according to the press-service of the State Statistics Committee.
The share of agriculture, forestry and fisheries in the structure of gross value added for the Republic amounted to 17.6%.
Due to systemic measures to further increase production volumes and expand the range of food crops, as well as ensure on this basis the complete satisfaction of the needs of the population in food products, some 8263,8 thousand tons of grain crops were produced in January-December 2016, up by 87.2 thousand tons or by 1.1% YoY.
Potato production in the Republic amounted to 2958,3 thousand tons (109.7%), vegetables – 11272,5 thousand tons (111.3%), melons – 2045,2 thousand tons (110.4%), berries – 3042,7 thousand tons (110.8%) and grapes – 1735,3 thousand tons (109/9%).
Consistent implementation of measures to further increase the capacity of the livestock industry, as well as systemic support by state contributed to the growth of the cattle population, saturation of the domestic consumer market with animal products. Over the past period, all categories of farms of the Republic produced 2171,8 thousand tons of meat (up by 6.8% YoY), 9703,3 thousand tons of milk (7.5%), and 6111,7 million pieces of eggs (10.6%).
