Russia may boost production of organic food, or food produced without genetically modified organisms, and occupy a tenth of the world market in the next two decades, Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachyov said.
“Russia may occupy up to 10% of the world market of organic products in 20 years”, he said. “Experts forecast that the world turnover of organic products may reach $200-250 million by 2020. The Russian Agriculture ministry already sees organic agricultural production as one of the most promising spheres in the sector”.
In 2015, the world’s market of organic products amounted to $100 billion, he said, adding that Russia banned production of plants with genetically modified organisms and sowing of genetically modified seeds from July 3. (Prime/Business World Magazine)
