During the first ten days of September weather was rather unfavorable for preparation of soil to start the winter rapeseed sowing. The reason was higher average daily temperature, which exceeded the norm by 1.1-6 C, contributing to soil evaporation, and lack of precipitations.
Sufficient moistening of upper soil layer (21-30 mm) was observed only in some parts of Northern, Western, Central regions. In the first ten days of September optimal terms for winter rapeseed sowing came to an end in the zones of Forest Steppe and Polesye. Using the available soil moisture, accumulated during the rainy period in July and early August, farmers of these zones managed to sow rapeseed at the forecast area in time. Seedlings have been received at the major part of these fields.
Harvesting of sunflower and soybean still continues. Soybean productivity is very uneven: from 1.7 MT/ha in Chernovtsy region to 3.83 MT/ha in Kherson region. (UkrAgroConsult/Business World Magazine)
