In 2016, Belarus plans to increase the harvest of corn for grain 5.5 times YoY, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Vladimir Grakun declared.
The harvested areas will total 180 thousand ha, the production volumes – 1.2-1.25 million tons. The reporting volumes will cover the whole possible deficit of the grain. Last year Belarus produced 220 thousand tons of corn for grain, Grakun said.
The Deputy Minister explained that the drought became the main reason for low harvest of corn for grain in 2015.
Grakun stressed that in the current year, corn areas demonstrated good growing conditions, and there were no problems. The southern regions have already started harvesting corn for seeds. (APK-Inform/Business World Magazine)
