Active development of Russian grain handling port capacities ensured record high exports in the 2015/2016 season. Current surplus of capacities, as well as projects for grain handling terminals expansion, provide a basis for further growth of grain export capacity.
UkrAgroConsult estimates that over the past 10 years Russian grain handling seaports capacities increased by more than 100% – from 15.8 MMT in 2006 to 37.7 MMT in 2016. The most active development is observed in ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin, which provide about 85% of grain shipments.
Сurrently there is a surplus of grain handling capacities in Russian seaports. In view of planned projects for reconstruction, modernization and construction of new objects, capacity surplus may increase even more, which creates preconditions for exports growth. In view of announced projects until 2020, Russian grain handling seaports capacities may increase by 20 MMT to 60 MMT. (UkrAgroConsult/Business World Magazine)
