March was the most successful month for terminals working at Ventspils Freeport – a total of 2.6 million tons of cargoes were transshipped, which is 21% more when compared with March 2016, as reported by Ventspils Freeport authority.
In total, terminals of Ventspils Freeport had transshipped 7.1 million tons of cargoes in the first three months of 2017, which is 17% more than a year ago, as noted in the port authority’s report. Ventspils Freeport authority reports that private terminals working at the port had transshipped 1 million tons more in the first three months of 2017 than in the same period of 2016.
The year’s planned volume has been exceeded by 2.1 million tons. The increase mainly applies to coal, iron ore concentrate, cast iron and Ro-Ro cargoes. Certain cargo types, including oil products, continue to decline.
The volume of cargoes and the number of passengers carried by Stena Line ferry operator continue to increase as well. Compared with the same period of last year, 9,580 passengers more than last year used the ferry line connecting Ventspils and Nynashamn in Sweden in 2017. The volume of Ro-Ro cargoes transshipped at Ventspils Freeport has grown 16%. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
