For two month owners of vehicles registered abroad can pay 30% of the car excise duty when clearing customs. Besides, the registration of vehicles older than 10 years will be allowed in Moldova.
This is provided for by the amendments approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. In particular, residents of Moldova who imported cars registered abroad before November 1, can place them under the import regime with paying 30% only of the car excise duty set for 2016, Finance Minister Octavian Armasu explains.
The privilege is available for vehicles older than 10 years too. To have the rebate, the owners must present the road toll certificates and register the vehicles with the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications in the period between December 1, 2016 and February 1, 2017. The provision is not applicable to vehicles registered in Tranistria whose owners reside in the region and have the Tranistrian driver’s licence. Holders of the Moldovan driver’s licenses whose vehicles are registered abroad that can not stay in Moldova for longer than 180 days a year and must leave the country as the term is over if they have not registered the cars in Moldova. At the same time, foreigners whose driver’s licenses are issued in the country their vehicles are registered in can stay in Moldova for more than 180 days. In this case, they have to pay the road toll of EUR 180 every 180 days of the stay in Moldova. The use of public roads by holders of Moldovan driver’s licenses who own vehicles registered in Tranistria will be prohibited. These drivers can be fined 25 to 30 conventional units and 4 demerit points. The amendments aim to ensure tax equality between owners of cars registered in Moldova and owners of cars registered abroad and will be submitted to the Parliament soon, the Finance Ministry said.
