Work continues in Ukraine to strengthen the energy autonomy of healthcare institutions. In particular, the Regional Clinical Medical Center for Socially Dangerous Diseases of the Poltava Regional Council has started its own electricity generation.
The center provides specialized care to patients with tuberculosis, HIV infection, viral hepatitis and other infectious diseases. Laboratory diagnostics and X-ray examinations are carried out here, advisory assistance is provided and multidisciplinary support for patients is provided. About 250 people visit the facility every day.
As part of the joint project of the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine “Ray of Hope” to increase the energy autonomy of medical institutions, a solar power plant with a total capacity of 68.8 kW was installed in the facility.
It already generates electricity and helps maintain the operation of medical and auxiliary equipment, including during outages in the external network. The system includes 110 solar panels, two inverters, 15 energy storage devices and a battery management system.
The generated electricity is used to power the department for monitoring and evaluating measures to combat tuberculosis, the X-ray department, the boiler room, the laundry, the regional pharmaceutical warehouse, the medical archive and other departments.
Own generation also helps the institution reduce electricity consumption from the external network and support the operation of important services in the event of outages.
In addition to the solar power plant, the Center operates an autonomous boiler room, which provides stable heat supply during the heating season, in particular in the event of interruptions in the operation of the centralized network.
In general, increasing the energy autonomy of medical institutions is a systematic work that continues in different regions of Ukraine. Such solutions help prepare hospitals for the autumn-winter period and ensure continuous provision of medical care even with unstable energy supply. (Energy Ministry)
