Ukrainian arms manufacturers are a community of brave entrepreneurs who, in partnership with the Defence Forces, create unique technologies. Today, this includes more than 900 state and private companies and over 300,000 people working to strengthen the country’s defence capability.
More than 50% of the weaponry currently used on the frontline is now of Ukrainian production. This includes, in particular, unmanned systems, artillery and communication systems – all of which meet the key needs of the army and increase its effectiveness.
Ahead of the Day of the Armourer, the Government has adopted a number of decisions aimed at developing the defence-industrial complex and accelerating the introduction of innovations.
- Fast-track procurement of innovations for the Armed Forces.
A government resolution allows the Ministry of Defence to procure innovative prototypes for testing in real combat conditions.
This shortens the path from development to delivery. It also introduces a systematic collection of feedback from the military on their effectiveness.
“Innovations should not become outdated even before they reach centralised procurement because of a complicated bureaucratic process. In modern warfare, the speed of technology implementation is critical,” stressed Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
- Protection of intellectual property in defence development.
The Government has approved a policy on the management of intellectual property rights in the defence-industrial complex. The document establishes clear rules for interaction between the state and manufacturers regarding the protection and use of developments.
The aim of the policy is to protect rights to defence technologies created by enterprises of the state sector of the defence-industrial complex or acquired through defence procurement by state customers, and their use in the production of defence goods.
This decision forms part of the implementation of the State Anti-Corruption Programme and the measures it provides for.
The Prime Minister thanked Ukrainian defence industry manufacturers for their work, emphasising that Ukrainian weapons were an important factor in the security not only of Ukraine, but of the whole of Europe and the world. (Government portal)
