In 2025, 25% of Russian employers reduced their staff due to a sharp economic slowdown, according to a Get experts study, the data of which are cited by “Izvestia”. At 51% of companies that made such a decision, the number of employees decreased by 11-20%, and at another 18% – by 21-30%. The main reason for the reductions was financial difficulties, as stated by 66% of employers. 37% attributed their decision to a change in the organizational structure. 22% of respondents pointed to problems with the selection or replacement of personnel, and 17% to a shortage of qualified specialists. Another 13% linked the layoffs to a drop in sales or the divestment of part of the business. Over two years, the share of companies that reduced their staff has increased by 2.5 times. In 2023, such measures were taken by 10% of employers.
Also in 2025, 32% of companies reported an increase in staff turnover. In 52% of cases, employees left on their own initiative, in 20% – at the decision of their superiors, and in another 28% – a combination of both options. The most in-demand employees were narrow-profile specialists (65%), “blue-collar workers” (43%) and middle managers (28%). The greatest difficulties arose in finding and retaining representatives of working professions, IT specialists, as well as professionals in the field of sales and commerce (The Moscow Times).
