The Swedish State Secretary Christian Danielsson during his visit to Chisinau has announced that his country will provide new support to Moldova of about 120,000 euros to counter election-related disinformation.
The Swedish delegation includes Torbjorn Sohlstrom, Director-General for Political Affairs. The officials announced that the working visit to Chisinau was an opportunity to discuss how Sweden could develop its cooperation with Moldova to support the country’s EU accession and reform efforts, as well as to strengthen its resilience ahead of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
Danielsson also announced that Sweden was offering further support to Moldova, worth around EUR 120,000 to counter election-related misinformation. This additional support will complement existing Swedish support for independent media and cyber security in Moldova.
“I am impressed by Moldova’s resilience against Russia’s hybrid attacks and the multitude of crises that have occurred as a result of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Sweden will remain committed to supporting Moldova in this difficult situation,” Danielsson said.
Sweden’s support for Moldova has increased in recent years. In 2023, support amounted to EUR 42 million. (Moldpres)
