Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal chaired a meeting on the progress of preparations of the fuel and energy sector and housing and communal services enterprises for the autumn-winter period of 2023-2024.
The Ministry of Energy reported that until the beginning of the heating season, it was planned to accumulate 1.8 million tons of coal and 14.7 billion cubic metres of gas. According to the Ministry of Energy, all scheduled repairs of energy facilities are being carried out according to schedule.
According to the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development, 435 heat supply facilities have been restored so far.
The Prime Minister listened to the reports of heads of NPC Ukrenergo, NNEGC Energoatom and Ukrhydroenergo on the status of repairs at the companies’ facilities, as well as information on the progress of work to protect energy facilities of all forms of ownership.
“Ensuring engineering protection at power generation and distribution facilities is as important as their restoration. We have to protect our energy sector from russian missiles and drones to the maximum extent possible before the heating season. The relevant tasks and instructions have long been given out. Now it is a personal responsibility, including that of the heads of energy facilities,” said Denys Shmyhal.
The participants of the meeting discussed, among other things, steps to increase the capacity to export and import electricity between Ukraine and the EU, as well as the possibility of switching thermal power plants to alternative fuels to reduce natural gas consumption.
