The Belarusian mechanical engineering company Belkommunmash has won a tender to sell ten modern low-floor trams for fast tramlines to the Russian city of Volgograd, representatives of the embassy of Belarus in Russia reported.
The contract with the Volgograd city administration will be signed soon. It will stipulate the schedule for delivering the trams to a large mass transit system operator in the Russian city. The acquisition of the third batch of ten trams, which meet state-of-the-art technical requirements, will become another step in renewing the city’s electric transport fleet, noted representatives of the Volgograd city administration.
In line with the documents of the tender Belkommunmash will deliver model 802 trams to Volgograd. Those are four-axle trams, which will have doors on both sides specifically for Volgograd. One tram can carry 165 passengers. Low floor occupies 40% of the tram space. When combined with a special platform for baby strollers and a mechanical ramp, it will allow low-mobility passengers to use the new trams. Apart from that, the trams boast synchronized visual and acoustic information systems for passengers. The trams are fitted with heaters and tinted windows. The combination is supposed to ensure optimal air temperature inside the tram. The interior is made using plastic and aluminum panels as well as composite materials. It will offer a high level of comfort for passengers. (BelTA/Business World Magazine)
