Early in July hot weather conditions persisted in Ukraine with local rains and lightning. Along with this, in the dry regions soil moisture stocks decreased considerably, which can lead to higher number of shriveled grain. High temperatures contributed to the intensive growth of grain crops and speeded up the stages of their development
Winter wheat is at XI stage of organogenesis (wax maturity). Depending on the variety and fore crop, plant head length is 80-90 mm. Number of ears in the head – 18-20 items. Height of plants – 90-105 cm. Density after the best fore crops – 300-360 items/square meter, number of productive sprouts – 650-950 items/square meter. Lodging of winter wheat is observed in the fields with high mineral nutrition.
Early spring crops are at the beginning of XI organogenesis stage (wheat, triticale, and oats). Crop condition is predominantly good.
Corn continues to form leave apparatus and gain vegetation mass. Early sown varieties begin to form tassel. Height of plants is 80-100 cm and after the best fore crops – 130-190 cm. Moisture stocks in 1 meter soil layer are within good and optimal limits (100-160 mm). Crops condition is mainly good and satisfactory. (UkrAgroConsult/Business World Magazine)
