Canada’s participation in water supply and energy projects, attracting investment through guarantees, housing construction in Ukraine, and cooperation in the field of minerals-these and other topics were discussed by Oleksii Sobolev, Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, with Natalka Cmoc, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine.
“To support the country’s resilience, the Government is attracting investment in projects related to energy security, critical infrastructure, the defense sector, and other key areas. Together with our Canadian partners, we are working to attract Canadian businesses and promote investment opportunities in Ukraine,” noted Oleksii Sobolev.
Among the potential projects in the water supply and energy sectors that could be implemented with Canadian business participation are the expansion of the Dniester Hydroelectric Power Plant and the construction of the Kaniv Pumped Storage Facility. Such projects are critical for system balancing and long-term energy security. The Government is interested in applying Canada’s experience, particularly for the reconstruction of southern Ukraine (smart irrigation projects), green hydrogen projects, and more.
Attracting Canadian capital to Ukraine’s housing sector is another key topic of the meeting. The idea of establishing a Housing Finance Investment Fund (HFIF) with the participation of Canadian investors was discussed. Additionally, the eOselia mortgage lending program could be scaled up through the involvement of international financial institutions.
The meeting participants discussed cooperation in the field of critical minerals, specifically a more comprehensive study of titanium-apatite deposits. The Ukrainian side emphasized the importance of cooperation under the Joint Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Geological Sciences with Canada. (Government portal)
